voor = before, in front of, for, in favor of

• De fiet staan voor het huis (The bicycle stand in front of the house)
• Hij zit voor de TV. (He sits in front of TV)
• Het is vijf voor half een (It is 12:25)
• Voor de les drinken wij kopje thee. (Before the lesson, we drink tea)

onder = under, beneath, amidst, among, during

• Hij leest onder het eten. (He reads at dinner/ He reads during dinner)

aan = to, on

• aan het werk gaan (get busy)
• het schilderij aan de muur (the painting is on the wall)
• ik heb het aan gegeven (I gave it to him)
• ik geef dat boek aan mijn neef. (I gave that book to my nephew)

bij = by, near, with

• New Jersy ligt bij New York City. (New Jersey is by New York City)

achter = behind

• achter raken (fall behind)
• mijn horloge loopt achter (my watch is slow)

na = after

• Na het werk iedereen naar het bar (After the work everyone go to the bar)

zonder = without

• zonder meer (simply)
• ik drink koffie met suiker maar zonder melk. (I drink coffee with sugur, but without milk)
